Whether you’re traveling the open road full-time or taking an extended vacation in your RV, it’s important to keep up your fitness routine. Sitting for an extended period in your RV while cruising over long stretches of road can lead to stiffness and pain. Not exercising at all during long travels can waste away your muscles. You do not have to lose your gains.

In an RV, you can take along all the things that you need for your comfort. Similarly, you can take fitness equipment with you. Organize it well and it will be your gym during your travels. Your RV gym, even though it will be small, will be a big motivator for you to continue striving to achieve your fitness goals. Here are some tips and ideas for setting up your very own mobile gym right in your RV:

  1. Choosing equipment – Mostly, select compact pieces that are easily portable. Include items such as an adjustable suspension trainer, jump rope, resistance bands, and yoga mats since these are lightweight and allow you to add some variation to your exercise routine and thereby keep you interested. Multi-purpose equipment is also a good option. For heavier equipment, you will need to be more strategic. If you have the space and wish to add weights and some heavier equipment, do so, but get your RV weighed to ensure that it is under the GWCR (Gross Combined Weight Rated). Additionally, you’ll also need to ensure that there is an even distribution of weight throughout the RV.
  1. Storage Solutions – Get creative with storage to find places for your gear throughout your RV. See how you can utilize cabinets, the space under beds, and other open spaces. You can organize your dumbbells, kettlebells, and such equipment in clear/labeled plastic boxes and store them in cabinets or the basement. This will prevent them from rolling around or moving and potentially becoming a safety hazard. These days, there is also special equipment that you can mount outside your RV and use when you stop at campgrounds.
  2. Making Space – Identify an area like the dinette or lounge spots that can be cleared for workout space and accessorize it with yoga mats or exercise bands. A dedicated space for exercise inside the RV, and some clearly visible equipment will likely make you want to work out. Making such changes will increase your commitment to your workout routine.
  3. Outdoor options – Consider bodyweight exercises, cardio, or sports and activities that you can enjoy outside to avoid crowding your RV with equipment. Since you are traveling, make good use of the fresh air and the scenic beauty of the surroundings. Such workouts will boost not only your physical fitness but also your mental health. Of course, the type of workouts or activities that you can perform outdoors will depend on the weather, the amount of time you have at hand, and the surrounding environment. During unfavorable conditions, you can use your indoor mobile gym, and during good conditions, step out and make the most of your RV experience.
  4. Routine adjustments – Tailor your usual workouts to your RV setup. Opt for effective and suitable variations of exercises. You can utilize furniture and items from your RV, for exercises such as inclined pushups, yoga poses, and row squats. Even the sides and steps of the RV can be used for exercise. At times, you may not be able to complete your entire routine at a stretch. You could divide your routine into parts. With some modifications and flexibility, you can work out effectively. If you’re having trouble getting enough protein while traveling, consider pairing your workout routine and meals with the best protein shakes available.Try to be mindful of noise. Avoid anything and everything that can disturb neighbors at parks or campgrounds. You might meet some other fitness enthusiasts on your travels. Working out with other like-minded people will make your routine more enjoyable, and in the process, you might form some long-lasting friendships.

Wrapping Up: With some planning and creative use of smaller, multipurpose items, it’s absolutely possible to maintain your fitness routine right from your RV. Staying active will help combat the stresses of travel and keep you feeling great on the road.

Traveling away from home shouldn’t mean sacrificing your exercise routine. You just need to be creative when planning your workouts!

Almost everywhere you go, you’ll find miles of open road, paths and trails that are ideal for walking, running, biking, hiking and even rollerblading. By using your natural surroundings, you won’t even miss the treadmill–and besides, wouldn’t you rather take in the gorgeous scenery and views in nature anyhow?

Yoga and pilates are also great for RVing because the only equipment you need is a mat. Set up your own zen “yoga studio” in the great outdoors, surrounded by beauty and nature–what better way to relax and recharge. Pilates more your thing? There are countless apps, videos and digital programs to take your workout anywhere you have a TV, smartphone or tablet. And don’t forget the benefits of simple situps and pushups, which are great for the total body and can be done anywhere.

And, with ample storage room in all Fleetwood RV models, taking along some small home gym equipment is a snap. Keep a small, handy organizing tub to store light hand weights, resistance bands and a jump rope. You can enjoy your workouts anywhere you please–on a mountainous overlook, on the beach, in the woods–literally anywhere your travels take you!

Summertime is the perfect time to visit some incredible National Parks, especially those with slightly cooler climates during the warmer months of June, July and August. Touring the country in your Fleetwood RV is the perfect way to see amazing glaciers, national landmarks, majestic mountains and more.

Pro Tip: Buy a National Parks annual pass if you plan to visit multiple parks this summer. The pass allows you to enter any national park all year and isn’t much more expensive than the weekly pass to get into the park.

Check it out!

Here are a few of the best national parks to visit this summer:

Glacier National Park, Montana

Now is the time to visit these famous natural icecaps and glaciers, as sadly, glaciers are melting rapidly each year with climate change. Mountain views and wide-open nighttime skies are amazing. While only primitive camping is allowed inside the park itself, there are several options for accommodating recreational vehicles just outside the park, including Granite Park Campground, Many Glaciers Campground, and Heart of Glacier RV Park & Cabins.

Sequoia National Park, California

This park is known for its huge sequoia trees — a must-see, bucket list item everyone should visit in their lifetime. These unbelievable natural wonders will take your breath away. Reservations are highly recommended June through September at the various campgrounds such as Cold Springs Campground, Sequoia RV Ranch, and Sequoia Campground & Lodge.

Acadia National Park, Maine

The 47,000-acre Atlantic coast recreation area of Acadia National Park primarily on Maine’s Mount Desert Island is truly one-of-a-kind. Its landscape is marked by woodland, rocky beaches and glacier-made granite peaks like Cadillac Mountain, the highest point on the United States’ East Coast. Local wildlife includes moose, bear, whale, and seabirds. The Park is RV-friendly, but plan with reservations made well in advance. You’ll also want to be sure to drive the Park Loop Roads, which is a great way to view all the essential sights of Acadia.

Rocky Mountain National Park

This national park is one of the most crowded of them all, but don’t panic, as that’s because it’s just so easy to see some amazing sights on an RV trip. You can drive Trail Ridge Road, the highest continuous paved road in the U.S. with its breathtaking summit at 12,183 feet. You can find elk, marmots, and other wildlife, all right by the roadside.

Summer is in full swing, and that means it’s time to hit the road! Pack up your Fleetwood coach and get ready for an incredible National Parks adventure this summer!

Once you’ve established a family unit, it can be easy to focus on the kids and neglect your marriage or partnership with your significant other. Well, we’re here to remind you how important it is to nurture that loving relationship! Parents can give more to their children when there’s a solid marriage from which to build that family foundation! Here are some of our simple ideas to keep dating your spouse while the kids are in tow:

Carry out dinner.

Pick a new or old favorite restaurant closeby and order take out for two! Make it extra special with candles and music from a bluetooth speaker to up the romance.

Take a walk together nearby.

If your kids are old enough to stay in the RV alone, just make sure one of you has a phone so they can reach you in case of emergency. Or, take a baby monitor or walkie-talkie! A brief walk just the two of you can do wonders without family distractions.

Set up a movie.

Once the kiddos are in bed, set up one of your favorite films and watch it under the stars. Sharing a bowl of popcorn in your very own outdoor drive-in can be super fun and romantic!

Have a coffee date.

Get up before the kids and share a cozy cup of coffee as you watch the sun come up! Just a few extra minutes of alone time can go a long way when you’re traveling with the whole family for an extended period of time.

Read a book together.

Sharing a book is a great way to reconnect with your love. Have one person take a page at a time, or switch off as you want. The subject matter can be a funny autobiography you’re both into, a creepy horror story, self-help or marriage advice, or anything in-between. It’s a nice way to stay off the screens and just read together.

Even though your kids are important, your marriage or partnership must also be prioritized. Loving each other well is a surefire way to extend that love and joy to the whole family!

Life on the road is perfect for ANYONE – men, women, retired couples, young families, and anyone in between. At first glance, enormous recreational vehicles and the sometimes rugged RV lifestyle might seem a little intimidating or even a little male-dominated, but there is a large female demographic in RV living that’s been around for quite some time! All you have to do is find like-minded women like yourself who enjoy life to the fullest, love to go on adventures, and like to share their travel adventures with other females.

There are numerous RV clubs, chat groups, subscriptions, and organizations for women, including “Girl Camper Magazine” and “RVChicks.com”, plus a large Facebook presence of women who all love RVing. People who share a common bond tend to be open, non-threatening and welcoming to others with the same interests. So finding a group of female RVers online or in person can be helpful for sharing packing tips, shopping strategies, maintenance referrals, purchasing advice and more.

Blogs and websites can offer helpful product suggestions like women’s favorite mini appliances, organizing bins and storage containers, fun recipes, multi-functional wardrobes, and so much more. Being part of an “RV sisterhood” can be great whether you’re venturing out on the road solo, with a partner or travel buddy, or the whole entire family. You can share tips and ideas for making the best of your life on the road.

Women RVer Spotlight – Singer and Songwriter, Astra Kelly!

Prolific indie folk singer-songwriter Astra Kelly embarks on a six-week RV caravan tour to share new songs from her tenth studio album, “Soul Fires.”

San Diego, California – March 21, 2023 – What do you get when you cross two Fleetwood RV® Flairs and two creative solo women RVers? A Flairavan! The “Soul Fires Flairavan Tour” kicks off on April 13 in Carpinteria, California! With promotional support from Fleetwood RV®, the journey celebrates the music of Astra Kelly and RVing women.

In June of 2022, Astra moved into a 32-foot Fleetwood Flair, named it Bessie, and embarked on an 8,000 mile trek around the US to rediscover her creative mojo after the pandemic, write a new record, and allow space for processing the loss of her Mom. The result is nine songs that reflect spiritual/emotional healing and transformation, and embrace the power within universal love, the open road, nature, and the mysticism of life. Astra gathered a band of San Diego superstars and the sound arrived in the heart of Americana with a swampy, nomadic spark. The album, “Soul Fires,” is scheduled for summer 2023 release, but she’ll celebrate with the first single release and a solo/acoustic west coast tour.

Joining the tour is marketing manager, Robin Dvorak, fellow Fleetwood Flair owner, two dogs and a cat for a dozen plus dates from SoCal to Bend, OR.

Road trips in a recreational vehicle can be ideal for the whole family. Traveling in an RV is easy to plan around school vacations, costs less than flying in the long run, and with no flights or trains to catch, you’re always on your own schedule. It can also be less stressful when traveling with just your family in your own vehicle instead of navigating airport crowds and other busy travelers–if the kids get antsy on the road, you have the freedom to simply pull over and let them get their wiggles out.

Typical school-year calendars are filled with three- and four-day weekends for fall break, national holidays, and staff in-service days for teachers. Summer vacation can allow for longer trips and national parks further away, and winter break can be great for ski destinations in cold climates. Take advantage of those school breaks and long weekends, and pack up the family for some quality road time in your RV. Bring along games, puzzles, books and other activities to keep everyone entertained during drive time—and then take in the scenic sights all together at each of your stops. Have a general plan, but be flexible and embrace the spontaneity of the journey!

When traveling in your RV you will also have control over how much you can bring along. Rather than squeezing everything into a carry-on bag (or worse yet, risk losing your luggage altogether during air travel), your vehicle will have maximized storage space for luggage, supplies and other necessary gear. You can pack as much as your space will allow–no need for travel-sized toiletries or sacrificing items from home that aren’t TSA-approved. You can also find the perfect RV model floor plan to suit your family’s needs, while feeling at home on the road.

RVs are perfectly suited to family lifestyles. Many models are equipped with bunk beds or fold-away sleeping areas that kids will love to cozy up in. The Fleetwood Fortis has a drop-down hideaway-style bed and the all-new exclusive Kid Kave™ in the 36Y., and the Discovery LXE 40G and 44B also feature bunks. The spacious common areas in all models are roomy enough for everyone to grab a seat for meals and hangout time. Plus, you can always set up the canopy for the patio for an outdoor extension to your living space. The kids can play catch, tag, cornhole, or stargaze, you name it.

RV living can be fun for the entire family—so pack up and hit the road!

Start planning your Spring RV trip now

When you look out the window at the gray February weather, RV travel is probably the farthest thing from your mind. But for the savvy RVer, February is the signal to start planning that first trip of the Spring. Here’s why.

Use downtime to get your plan down

Where’s the right spot for that ultimate fishing excursion? Is there a secluded spot with a private waterfall? Can you really ride ATVs to the top of a mountain? You have time to let your mind do the wandering. Use time off the road to get online and explore. Whether you discover a new destination or perfect your visit to a favorite destination, now is the time to plot routes, bookmark attractions and even purchase tickets.

On that note, many attractions offer off-season discounts on pre-purchased tickets. The bigger national parks, like the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone and Yosemite are already booking, so it’s smart to plan now and reserve your spot.

 Wake up your RV

One weekend soon, you’ll wake up and it will be sunny, warm and the road will be calling. But if you winterized your RV (and of course you did), you’ve got some work to do before you’re road-ready. The water system needs to be flushed and sanitized. Batteries need to be recharged. LP gas cylinders need to be topped off and appliances need to be checked. Tires need to be checked and inflated to the proper pressure. Engines and generators need to be tuned up. You get it. Whether you do it yourself or use a trusted RV service center, you’re going to need time to get up and running. Now is the time to schedule that appointment, or put together your dewinterizing plan. Luckily, REV’s Service Centers are in Decatur, IN and Coburg, OR, so you’re never out of reach. Schedule an appointment now!

Gear up!

There is nothing worse than getting away from it all only to realize that you didn’t bring it all. Chances are, you used up supplies and emptied shelves before you put your RV away for the winter. Late winter is a great time to begin moving back into your home away from home. As an added bonus, you may be able to purchase gear and supplies at offseason discounts. The folks at RV Atlas have put together an amazingly comprehensive list of everything you could possibly need.

Spring is just around the corner. Use this time wisely so that when it arrives, you’re ready to go.
